Admissions
So you want to join Bolton Brow? Great choice! This page explains what you need to know.
A great first step is to arrange a tour of the school so you can meet our friendly staff and get a good feel for the place. It’s a good idea to think of some questions that you’d like to ask us and tell us a little bit about your family and what’s important to you.Even if your child isn’t old enough to start school yet, feel free to get in touch.
Applications to nursery are made direct to our school, whilst applications for reception onwards are made to Calderdale Council.
When do we start?
Children can start our nursery from the term following their third birthday. Most children start reception full-time in September after their fourth birthday. For example, if your child turns 4 in June, they’ll usually start school in September that same year. You can see specific dates below.

Key documents
Admissions policy and Over-subscription criteria for Reception class
Timetable for the Primary Co-ordinated Scheme for the 2026/2027 Academic Year
Our admissions policy was the subject of a consultation from November 2018 - January 2019 and the oversubscription criteria were determined through this process.
What if we are not offered a place?
If our school receives more applications than we have places available, these are allocated according to our published over-subscription criteria.
Parents who want to appeal against a decision not to offer their child a place at the school must request an appeal in writing.

Starting school in another year
Children may be able to join our school in other year groups at any time during the school year, if a place is available. Please contact us to arrange a visit and to discuss this.
All in year applications are made via Calderdale Council.
Starting Nursery
Children are admitted to our Nursery class three times a year (September, January and after Easter) from the term following their 3rd birthday (or later). Full time and part time places are available, and full or half days, which is ideal for introducing children to the school environment.
If you want your child to start in Nursery, you apply directly to school. Contact us to arrange a visit and pick up an application form in the school office.
All 3 and 4 year olds in England are entitled to 15 hours free childcare per week. Many families are entitled to 30 hours. Please contact the school office for further information.
Come and see for yourself
We hope exploring this website has given you a good idea of what our school is like, but it’s no substitute for visiting in person and meeting our staff and pupils. We think you’ll be impressed. Please get in touch to arrange a visit.
