Our history

Bolton Brow School was built at the end of the 19th Century and for most of its life was a combined Boys Secondary School and an Infant School. It was known as a board school and the head teacher was Mr John Holmes.

Following major renovation in 1963 the school opened as a primary school. The Nursery was added in 1975 and in 2003 a new purpose-built Nursery building was installed. This continues to offer a wonderful introduction to life at Bolton Brow for our youngest children set within its own grounds which includes our fantastic ‘Wild Space’ outdoor learning area which was installed in the summer of 2013.

Like many Victorian buildings, our main school building suffered from ravages of time. The Governors and the Leadership of the school had to be vigilant with the building and maintain a programme of refurbishment through the early part of this century.

In 2005 Mr. Keith Woodhouse attempted to climb Everest. The money he raised doing so enabled us to open a state of the art I.C.T suite which has recently been upgraded and is still an important learning resource for all our children.

In September 2011 the Governing Body decided to convert to become an Academy. As one of the first Single Convertor Academy schools in Calderdale and in England the Governors and the Leadership of the school have overseen some incredible developments that have added significant value to the education of the children who have been in the school over the last 8 years and for future generations. These include a complete refurbishment of the heating system, the majority of the classrooms, significant works to improve and maintain the external fabric of the building, the refurbishment our school kitchen, the modification of our school entrance and the development of a purpose built area for out of hours wrap around care provision to be available on the school site.

On the 1st September 2019 Bolton Brow Primary Academy became part of the Together Learning Trust. As a founding school of this new Trust we are excited about the prospect of working collaboratively with our partner schools to further develop and enhance the educational experience that our brilliant children will enjoy for years to come.
