Curriculum and Ethos Committee




To assist the decision making of the Governing Board, by enabling more detailed consideration to be given to the best means of fulfilling the Governing Board's responsibility to ensure sound management of the academy’s ethos, policy and curriculum, including proper planning and monitoring.


To make appropriate comments and recommendations on such matters to the Governing Board on a regular basis.


To ensure the Academy meets its statutory obligations with regards to admissions, curriculum, exclusions, SEN and complaints.


Major issues will be referred to the full Governing Board for ratification.


Terms of Reference


  1. To monitor, analyse and challenge and to raise concerns or achievements at full governor meetings.


  1. To ensure that the academy is meeting its statutory requirements and local aspirations. To annually review and confirm the local aspirations.


  1. To monitor the achievement and allocation of resources and ensure that the academy is meeting its aspirations in Narrowing the Gap.


  1. Monitoring the quality and methods of teaching across the school and agree targets for good and outstanding teaching.


  1. To explore the academy curriculum and to see that it meets the needs of the pupils and academy's aspirations and values.


  1. To monitor and / or review and / or consider any other matters referred by the full Governing Board, Headteacher or Chair of Governors to this committee, or any other matter reasonably relating to or incidental to the matters identified in paragraphs 1. to 5. above.
