Mrs Matthews and Mrs Ali would like to welcome you to Year 1
– German Class.
Once again we are very lucky to have Mrs McKay, Mrs Heron, Mrs Frankland and Miss Kay working with us.
Morning Routine - The classroom doors will be open at 8.45am & there will be an Early Task for your child to complete. During the first half term, we welcome you into the classroom with your child in order to help them begin their Early Task and settle into the new routine. Once your child has adapted to the changes of moving from Reception to Year 1, we ask you to encourage your child to be independent. Should you have any questions or need to contact us, we operate an open door policy, but would ask you to see us after school unless it is a quick message as morning priority involves ensuring that all children are calm and settled, ready for the day ahead.
In the cloak room area, you will find a Parents Notice Board. On here, you will find a clip board and pen. Please will you use this to note down any changes to the usual collection of your child – we will check this before dismissing your child at home time – your child’s safety is of paramount importance to us. Thank you for your co-operation.
The Curriculum - This theme for this half term is ‘Five Alive’. During this, we will be exploring the following: Science - Living Things, Geography - Road Safety, History - When I was a baby, Art – Seurat, PE – Dance and Gymnastics, RE – Ourselves & Diwali, PSHCE –Self Awareness and Music – Singing (alongside daily Phonics, Literacy and Numeracy Lessons). Please Note: PE will be taught on Monday and Friday and we suggest your child’s PE kit is left in school, taking it home at the end of each half term to wash. For the safety of all children, we recommend that children do not wear jewellery and ear rings to school, but certainly not on PE days.
Uniform – It is strongly recommended that children come to school in school uniform. This helps them to feel part of the ‘school family’. Each child has been assigned to a school house and your child’s PE kit should represent this also. Can we also remind you that we ask children to wear school shoes outside and black pumps when indoors. If you have any questions regarding uniform, please do not hesitate to come and see us.
Homework - It is strongly recommended that you continue listening to your child read at home, as well as reading to them – the benefits of this are enormous! On occasions, your child may be sent home with work to complete. This will either reinforce what they have done in class or will be linked to a current topic. It is important that the children complete this and return it on time as it may be used in the following lessons. The date of return will be written on the homework. Your co-operation regarding this matter is greatly appreciated.
Trips - This term we are planning a trip to Tesco in order to support our ‘Five Alive’ topic. Details of all trips will of course be sent to you nearer the time.
We hope you have had a great summer & are ready for the exiting term ahead!
Keep your eye open for the Year 1 Information Evening, coming soon!
